20 Years of Modular Buildings: Café Corner

To celebrate 20 years of the LEGO Modular Buildings Collection, the LEGO Group has invited 22 LUGs from around the world to take part in a special anniversary project. Each participating LUG has been assigned one of the 22 Modular Buildings in the series and challenged to recreate it at 4× the scale of the original.

We’re incredibly excited to be representing the building that started it all…

We’re still in the early planning phase, but over the coming months, we’ll be documenting the project from the earliest design work through final assembly, sharing progress updates, behind-the-scenes photos, building challenges, and creative ideas that our members come up with along the way.

Be sure to check back again to see how we’ve been doing!

Designing the Structure at 4× Scale

With that in mind, we’ve been designing the building around real-life building techniques with a sturdy internal skeleton to acommodate removable façade panels. The façade panels also serve to prevent the internal frame from racking.
