Designing Café Corner at 4× Scale

As part of our LEGO collaboration for the 20 Years of Modular Buildings, we’ve been hard at work designing the 10182 Café Corner at 4x scale! Our design approach has focused on balancing faithfulness to the original model with the practical challenges of building at 4× scale.

With structure and portability in mind, we’ve been designing the building around real-life building techniques with a sturdy internal skeleton and removable façade panels. The façade panels also serve to prevent the internal frame from racking.

The work itself is being divided into major sections, with each section assigned a team lead who coordinates the design while other LUG members contribute ideas, solutions, and detail work.

We’re also using the larger scale as an opportunity to add the kind of storytelling that the LEGO Modular Buildings series is known for, incorporating minifigs, small scenes, and easter eggs throughout the café, hotel, and surrounding streetscape so there’s more to discover than just the architecture.
