Services Offered
At this point you may be asking, “What is a LEGO User Group (LUG)?” and “What does it do?” At the end of the day, Charm City LUG is an entirely volunteer-run organization, that exists first and foremost to provide a space for Adult Fans of LEGO (AFOLs) to meet people with common interests and hobbies, and share their love of LEGO. Charm City LUG is NOT a registered 501c3, as it is a Social Organization, established for the benefit of its Membership. However, the LUG does provide Services to the greater Mid-Atlantic Region in the form of community events and activities.
What Services does Charm City LUG Provide to the Community?
Displays
A common service offered is the availability of displays featuring LUG Member original builds. These displays can take place over extended periods of time like our annual holiday display, or as a one-time thing at a single day event.
Activities
We LOVE to get LEGO in the hands of the public, and allow others to experience the fun and creativity of the LEGO brick. We can bring “Play Brick” from our LUG collection or coordinate specific games for your event.
Introduction to Builders
Our LUG is made up of incredibly talented builders. We can introduce you to our members, some of whom offer design and build services to make your LEGO dreams into a reality.
What We Provide:
-
Play Brick
We have a supply of about 8 large crates of Play Brick provided through gracious donations.
-
Table Cloths
We have a supply of black table clothes for standard 8ft tables, which help make displays more professional.
-
Volunteers
Our Members will be there to represent the LUG at your event, and ensure a safe environment is available for all participants.
What We DO NOT Provide:
-
Furniture
We DO NOT bring tables or chairs to your events, and will often request they be supplied by the venue.
-
Stanchions
It is important to protect LEGO from wandering hands. We highly encourage stanchions around display table.
-
Free LEGO to Keep
Nothing comes for free. Any LEGO provided for displays or activities by the LUG remains the property of the LUG or individual members.
Things to Consider:
- Please remember that Charm City LUG Members volunteer their personal time to support community events. They are not compensated for their time, nor required to participate. Any display or activities we agree to take on, we do so at the discretion of our Members interests and availability. If Charm City LUG is unable to support your event, please don’t be offended. There are a number of factors that might influence that decision.
- All of the LEGO on display are part of our member’s collections. It is personal property, and as such, security considerations to protect that property is of the utmost importance for our events. (Some of the builds we have to display can cost upwards of several thousand dollars!)
- It takes A LOT of time to build a new original build. If you have an event you want us to attend, reach out early, so we can plan, especially if you have interest in us building to accommodate a specific theme.
- It is very hard to be in two places at once. Again, consider reaching out well in advanced of your event, to increase the likelihood that someone from the LUG will be able to participate.
- If you are interested in asking the LUG or Members of the LUG to build specific builds, especially if you intend to keep the build afterwards, keep in mind that LEGO can be quite expensive. Please be realistic and flexible with your planned budget for the project. Members maintain the right to decline any opportunities should they decide to do so.
